capturing rules from code   emergeit

emergeIT’s objective is to build a set of rules at the business level so that management of the rules can be placed in the hands of the business. With this in mind, a collection of operational code fragments alone are not enough, although if your objective is to migrate from one code language to another then this initial part of the emergeIT process will be of value. emergeIT helps you build business level rules that can be loaded in a business rules engine, used as the specification for a rewrite or package implementation, redeployed as part of a services oriented architecture, or used to direct your Business Process Management system.

emergeIT

  the emergeIT approach

The emergeIT software encapsulates our methodology for finding business rules. In outline this involves:
  • Load source code of application to be analysed
  • EmergeIT immediately tells you what code (if any) is missing
  • Code is automatically analysed to produce a detailed semantic model
  • Business vocabulary is either loaded or created
  • Suggested mining start points are identified by emergeIT and displayed
  • Start points are tagged with appropriate vocabulary
  • Potential rules site are automatically shown
  • Analysts classify rule sites including duplicates and variations
  • Rule model is created and source code marked
  • Rule model ready for export

supported environments   emergeit

emergeIT handles COBOL applications including where appropriate screen definitions, job control language, transaction processing systems files etc.

emergeIT support all key mainframe and open systems COBOL environments, please contact us if you have any specific questions. The flexibility of evolveIT means that we can extend support to cover most environment extensions with little additional effort or cost.

If you have a non-COBOL system that you would like to mine for business rules, look out for our new version of emergeIT or contact us for more information.
